Red Hugh O'Donnell

(In Gaelic)
Aodh Ruadh O'Domhnaill

The predestined boy had come whose advent a
druid priest had foretold.
With a countenance so appealing that none
could look at him without loving him.
On a May day in 1592, nineteen years old, valiant,
but lame in one foot--the mark of his cruel captivity,
he stood on the Rock of Doone, the white wand
in his hand, symbol of authority, straight and true.
He turned three times, from left to right, and three
times right to left, in honor of the trinity.
He viewed every point of his territory.
The inaugurater called out,
"O'Donnell!"
And each man according to his rank, cried out,
"O'Donnell!"
And the hundreds of clansmen carried the cry,
"O'Donnell!"
***Thus Red Hugh's star rose and shone high in the
north over Ireland, and still shines in the
dark sky of it's history.
